Depending on the quality of the road, and a 2 hour bus ride you can reach Boqueron Canyon. A majestic canyon trip where you can pay for a kayuko to take you up to a small rock beach. From there you can swim up to some small falls. On the way you pass amazing rock formations and stalactites from limestone deposits which is a day trip in itself if you have to wait for busses.
Another day trip by bus is the Finca which is about an hour away by bus from Rio Dulce is a private piece of land called "Finca Paraiso" which translates to Paradise Ranch. Or you can get there by bus located in town at the corner of the one cross road that leaves "roughly" every hour. The cost of getting into the Finca is 10Q for the day and closes around 4:00PM but the last bus back for Rio Dulce leaves at 3:00PM.
The main attraction of the Finca is the hot spring waterfall that's fed by a geothermal hot spring above a cool spring fed creek below. You can swim, dive, hike, or just relax under the falls inside on a shelf that goes back into smaller cavern type spots. The entire area is lush with extoic greenery but there is a beautiful canyon above that makes a nice walk as well.
OR I can take you to both these places and we can have lunch in Boqueron or down on the lake before heading about 20 minutes back towards Rio Dulce to bathe and relax in the hot spring water falls at Finca Pariaso for the remainder of the day. My price includes all entry fees,
transportation, guide, Lunches and water, but if you want beer or things like that, you need to provide them yourselves.
AND, if you are not in a hurry there is a hotel with a restaurant and rooms on the lake that you can stay for the night and return the next day. They are famous for their chicken soup, but also offer ceviches, mojarra, shrimp or burgers.
