Castillo San Felipe

These pictures were mostly taken by one of my guests (now friend) Iva Clanton from the U.S. during her visit here.

This can be reached by either boat or land via the village of San Felipe. A five to ten minute drive from Rio Dulce lies this small but majestic castle built by the Spaniards in to protect Lago Izabal from pirates. When a pirate ship was spotted coming up river, a chain was stretched across the mouth of the lake to prevent entrance. Then the battle would begin!
